Over the last year 2014-2015, many events have taken place to enrich the lives of our students. Throughout the year we raised over $30,000! We do that through the annual membership drive at the beginning of the year, dances, school store and the Garage Sale. Most of our events pay for themselves and have small expenses so we can spend all the money raised on the school.
This year we spent the money on:
Bought the Digital Reader board sign!!! ***$12,000*** A huge thank you to the West Linn-Wilsonville School District who paid for installation of the unit at approximately $12,000 as well.
Gave $1000 to the start up of Athey Robotics Clubs
Gave $1200 to the Korean Exchange Program
Bus driver appreciation and 8 teacher and staff appreciation lunches
The teacher break room, $1000 - a complete clean out, new couch, chairs, rug, kitchen island, etc (thank you Tiffany Home Furnishing for the deep discount!), and more. We are told that the teachers have stopped hiding in their classrooms and are gathering in the break room. They DEFINITELY needed and deserved the updates!!
$1300 for 8th grade recognition lunch (all money raised by the Dances)
We called out for teachers to send in grant requests, a total of $42,000 worth of requests came in! We wished we could have funded them all but it just wasn't possible. We picked grants based on the number of students affected, how long lasting the items would be and tried to make sure each grade, gym, music, choir etc received a gift.
$1200 to 7th grade language arts for books,
$75 for prizes for Poem in a Pocket
$225 to send students to Oregon Writing Festival (8th grade Language arts),
$250 for the ORCA field trip (reward for students who read and complete books reviews for books on the ORCA list),
$478.80 for 7th grade social studies to purchase reading material, $2800 to contribute to the purchase baby grand piano (Athey previously has had to rent one for every event), 6th grade science - two class sets of Vernier Scientific equipment, $1800,
$500 for track and field equipment,
$2800 for band, purchase of large instruments, instrument repair, sheet music, and festivals.
We also have an eagle scout, Charles Dierkes, who will be repairing and remulching the walking path around the school who requested $100 for materials - thank you Charles!
And finally at the start of the school year each teacher receives a grant of $100 to purchase supplies for their classroom (approximately 45 teachers). Wow! That's $4500!!
