How long have you been teaching?
This is my third year of teaching.
Where did you grow up? What town and state?
Sitka, Alaska. An island in Southeast Alaska where it rains over 100 inches per year, and is incredibly green and beautiful.
Have you always been a teacher? What were some of your previous jobs?
It took me a long time to come around to teaching, because my mother was a teacher, and I grew up in a small town where people constantly asked if would follow her into the profession. Once I discovered it, however, I loved it, and am so happy to be working in a job that is so challenging and rewarding. I have been an office manager for a non-profit, a loan officer and processor, a coordinator for a global student exchange organization, a clerk in an art store, and a barrista.
Did you or do you currently have any pets?
I have an adorable attack kitten name Bjarni.
What is your absolute favorite food?
I am definitely a foodie, so this is difficult to answer. It might be bratwurst with mustard and sauerkraut, as I'd have a hard time giving that up.
What is your favorite sports team?
I'm a Detroit Lions fan.
If you couldn't teach the subject you teach now, what would you teach?
I could see myself teaching French or another foreign language (yet to be learned),
Why do you teach and what is your favorite part about teaching?
I teach because it is different every day, and I love learning and discussing ideas with my students, They are at the age where they are eager to share their opinions and thoughts, which I love, and are generally enthusiastic to try new things. This vocation brings together my favorite skills (organization, reading, writing, and public speaking) and my favorite people (adolescents and the teachers who also adore
Lastly, what would your dream vacation look like?
I'd love to have my boyfriend, a light backpack, several good books to read, a journal, a few months to burn, and an around-the-world ticket.
